With the advancement in new technology, WiMax, there have been new devices that support WiMax services. With these now on floor, the pressure is on the service providers who will have to deliver according to end users requirements. Even the availability of new types of multimedia content and applications through the Internet and the need to stay connected are creating an increased demand for multimedia-capable 4G networks. Users want to be able to carry the richness of the Internet in their pockets, to stay informed and to collaborate through multimedia-capable applications, whenever they want and wherever they are.

However, rich wireless data comes with its own challenges, as ARPU through traditional billing mechanisms is not expected to be in proportion to consumer appetite for data services, multimedia content and multi-cast video.

To handle this challenge, service providers need a smarter wireless core for IP-based 4G networks that can learn from content at line speed and apply that knowledge to selectively adapt the network, enable new revenue-generating opportunities and dynamically optimize both the network and services. Service providers also need the flexibility to enable new services rapidly. These networks sometimes also support PDN Gateway for LTE.
