Water damage often causes structural damage and may be a source of health hazards. The source of water damage usually comes from leaks or moisture buildup within a confined space like a house or building. Moisture has many potential sources; however the main cause of this is poor quality of construction. While most buildings and homes are sealed tightly, they lack sufficient air flow in the form of ventilations. And this scenario most often leads to moisture buildup.

Construction materials like drywall is built in such a way that it does not allow moisture to pass through freely - or \"does not allow the house or building to breathe.\" Majority of moisture problems could be attributed to: 1) leaks from the roof, deck and windows; 2) gutters that leaks water into the house or beneath the building; 3) poor maintenance in large infrastructures like office buildings and schools.

Water damage repair requires the use of proper protective attire and sufficient remedial measures. Hence, without the proper cleaning attire and equipment starting the water damage repair activity is futile. However, even if you have the proper wear gear and equipment but do not have adequate knowledge on water damage repair activities, the job will not be done satisfactorily.

Since water damage also poses as a health hazard, relocating household occupants must be considered due to the remediation activities that must be done. For commercial or office buildings, the water damage repair process must be employed when the building occupants are not present, preferably after work or office hours.

Water damage repair is considered a catastrophe due to natural calamities like rain, storms and floods. It could also be due to leaking pipes. Before a water damage repair procedure is implemented, it is recommended that the main source of electricity is shut down properly to avoid electrocution accidents. The next step for water damage repair is to locate or find the main source of the water problems. When the source has bee identified and fixed permanently, it is time to remove the water. But since the electric power is currently shut off, use a gasoline powered water vacuum pump. Water removal must be done immediately to prevent the onslaught of molds and mildew. When the water has been extracted fully, remove all affected items to a dry spot at a higher ground to avoid a more extensive damage.

After all contaminated and damaged items have been removed properly clean everything using satisfactory water damage repair techniques where applicable. The appropriate cleaning and drying methods should be employed for any damaged and contaminated property or possessions. Be sure to dry everything thoroughly to avoid moisture and humidity. A water damage repair process is never successful if correct dryness is not achieved.

Restoring damaged items after they have been affected by dirty water must be primarily assessed. Decisions must be made as to which items can still be restored and which need to join the next batch of garbage disposal stuff. This is a procedure that needs immediate attention and action to save precious properties from extensive damage and to protect the health of household residents and other individuals.
