Some of the most famous of Amsterdam\'s museums are of course the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank\'s House. If however you fancy something a little bit different why not check out one of Amsterdam\'s more unusual museums.

The Torture Museum is located at Singel 449, 1012 WP Amsterdam, and a visit there will lead you through the entire history of human cruelty and give you a few shocks along the way. Not dealing with modern history, the Torture Museum displays old prints and a few medieval artifacts, all in a very dungeonesque manner. Visits don\'t take too long, are not for the faint hearted, but definitely will leave you saying that you\'ve done something different!

For the fashion oriented, the Tassen museum Hendrikje, or the Museum of Bags and Purses as it is known, is a great way to spend a couple of hours. The story of the Museum of Bags and Purses begins with Hendrikje Ivo\'s purchase of a handbag dating from 1820 that was 30 years ago. Since that first purchase, she and her family have accumulated over 30,000 bags and the decision was finally made to show parts of the collection to public. Housed in a beautiful Patrician house, the museum at Herengracht 573 is open daily and costs adults 6.50 for entrance.

Next on the list for more unusual experiences; how about the Municipality Archives? It might seem like a strange thing to do you on your holiday, but with a city as old as Amsterdam, the archives are honestly fascinating. Situated in the centre of the city, the archives include information on institution, companies, individuals, but also pictures and maps of Amsterdam through the centuries, and films, providing a wonderful introduction to the city\'s history. You can take tours of the archives, or attend an exhibition, and the building in which it stands is a landmark in and of it. Originally built as the Nederlandse Handelmaatschapij trading firm headquarters, it was designed by the prominent 19th-20th century architect K.P.C. de Bazel, who actually died before its completion.

One of the great things about Amsterdam is that there\'s just so much to do, and unlike other cities, each visitor can very much set their own agenda. The laid back attitude of the locals will rub off on those stopping in the city, and they will find themselves often in places that they might have never expected.

Being one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, Amsterdam offers all of the hotel and accommodation options that one could possibly dream of. Whether you are in the market for 5 star luxury, or a bed in a dorm room, you will find it in Amsterdam, and because of the excellent transport links, you\'ll have no problem reaching all the things in the city that you want, where ever your hotel or hostel is.
