Despite of fact credit repair is not legal in many states, there are many organizations acting on this field. In most of situations these people do know how to find and deal with credit problems, they are only able to work within the limits of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to the Federal Low, you can\'t remove accurate information from your report. If there is a mistake on your report, that can be disputed, but if the information is accurate, only the passage of time will eradicate it.

These \"repair\" agencies often use a mailbombing technique to try to remove information. A technicality in the laws allow you to have information removed if your request isn\'t responded to in a timely fashion. They flood the bureaus with bogus requests in the hopes that one particular communication won\'t be addressed, which gives them grounds to have the item removed from your credit report.

However, even if the information is removed, chances are good that it will be rereported to the credit bureau by the creditor if it is accurate. If it isn\'t accurate, mailbombing serves no purpose.
