Fake diamond ring has a cheap flavour to it, don\'t you think? If you suggest to your girlfriend that you would buy her a fake diamond ring she may have second thoughts about you but what if you show her what a great choice of designs and settings are available in your budget?

Of course many women are only too happy to wear fake diamond jewellery. The cost of insurance is one consideration but what if the real diamond ring or earrings are a family treasure. The loss would be so much worse.

Fake diamond rings are generally economical enough for a woman to have several different designs to match a wide range of outfits. A real diamond ring is more often than not a one off purchase, for an engagement or a wedding ring.

Okay so buying a fake diamond ring makes financial sense and in a way fashion sense but what constitutes a fake diamond ring?

The women of the thirties would have worn many rings with a glass stone, the design of the setting taking the eye and the mind away from the obvious failings of the actual stone. There were some pretty gaudy ring designs back then. Paste, glass or quartz \'gems\' really didn\'t pass muster and were easily spotted by anyone with reasonable eyesight!

Contemporary fake diamond rings are now so well crafted that they can even fool a professional jeweller. A modern fake diamond will probably be either cubic zirconium or another material known as Moissanite.

Cubic zirconium has been around a long time. It was originally developed for industrial processes with high tolerance for temperature and a very hard crystalline structure. It was these properties that made jewellery designers look to it for a diamond substitute. Until the late sixties it CZ was still a fairly crude imitator of the real diamond but Soviet engineers in the seventies came up with refinements that made CZ a real contender in the fake diamond stakes.

Moissanite or to give it it\'s proper name, silicon carbide is a step up the fake diamond ladder. Known as the \'Diamond from the stars\' or in some jewellers circles,\'The other diamond\', Moissanite is a terrific substitute for an authentic stone. With it\'s lustre and \'fire\' properties out sparkling a real diamond it\'s only drawback is that it produces a too perfect diamond.

Combined with it\'s dazzling good looks Moissanite is the second hardest material known to man, diamond being number one of course. It is these features that allow Moissanite to be used in the best fake diamond ring that you can buy.
