Caring For Your Human Hair Wig

Human hair wigs are becoming more and more popular. They prominently came onto the scene as donations given to charitable organizations. People would donate their cut hair of at least 10 inches long to be used for the wigs of cancer patients. When people noticed how wonderful and natural they looked, everyone started to want one.

Human hair wigs are much more expensive than imitation hair and they are also much more difficult to take care of. If you do this properly, you will have a great looking wig that will last you for several years. You will want to extend the life as long as possible to protect your investment.

You want to keep your own hair away from the wig as much as possible. This will avoid giving the human hair wig an oily appearance. The easiest way to do this is to wear a wig cap underneath the human hair wig. If you do not wear a wig cap, make sure that your own hair is as clean as possible before putting on the wig.

Just like your real hair, you\'re going to have to wash it. You can probably wear it about six times before having to do so, but if the wig starts to have a dirty or oily appearance, you may have to clean it a little more often. Before you begin cleaning it, make sure you comb it out and remove all the tangles. Comb the hair just like you would your natural hair, use a wig pick for curly hair and a wig brush or straight hair. Be very careful during this process as you want to avoid hair falling out of the wig.

To wash the human hair wig, fill your sink with lukewarm water, add wig shampoo and then soak it for about five minutes. After that time, squeeze out the water and rinse it in lukewarm water. You will then put a small amount of shampoo in your hand and gently massage the wig as though you were washing someone else\'s hair. Do not massage too roughly or you may damage the wig. Now you can rinse out the wig again in lukewarm water.

Repeat the process with conditioner and allow it to sit in the wig for about five minutes. Rinse it completely in lukewarm water and when you are finished rinsing, squeeze out the excess water. Again, remember to be gentle during this whole process.

Now you\'ll need to dry the wig. Place it in a towel and blot it dry very carefully. Once you have done that you can put it on a wig stand and allow it to dry naturally. If time is not a luxury, you can use a blow dryer on a low setting, but this is something that you\'re usually going to want to avoid. Once the wig is dried, you can brush or comb it out. If you\'re going to style the wig, do so now with a curling iron, Velcro or hot rollers. Once you have the style you want, you can lightly spray it with wig spray to set it.

The most important thing that you can remember is that you MUST always be gentle when handling, cleaning and styling your human hair wig.
