Researchers in the USA have discovered stem cells that can regenerate hair growth. They are from the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

According to them, we could be as close as five years away from treating baldness effectively.

Hair follicles produce hair. When stem cells are transplanted into the scalp they immediately grow into hair follicles. Then hair starts to grow.

The scientists have successfully tried this out on mice. They say that their research brings us nearer to finding cures for hair loss in humans.

Professor George Cotsarelis, lead researcher, said ’We could isolate the cells from hairs remaining on the back of your scalp, grow them in culture and then reconstitute new hair follicles.’
