Many people are stressed out for one reason or another, and they cope with this stress in both good and bad ways. For example, healthy ways to combat stress include mediation and exercise. Unhealthy examples of ways people cope with stress include drinking and smoking.

Because of the effects of smoking, there are various scans, such as the EBT scan, that a patient might have to have in order to assess the damage that smoke has done on the body. The EBT scan, which is also known as the Electron Beam Tomography scan, is a scan that can evaluate the body from the tops of the shoulders to the tops of the thighs.

So, what is the correlation between the EBT scan and smoking? In order to understand the medical ramifications of smoking, it is just as important to learn about what attracted people to smoking socially. In the early days of tobacco use, it was something that almost all the men did. Some women smoked as well, but it was considered to be unladylike.

As time went on, however, the aristocratic women began to smoke right alongside the men, and as the twentieth century dawned, smoking became a way for people to look sophisticated. Advertisements and movies frequently showed people smoking in order to further demonstrate that point.

The result was a dangerous habit that millions of people started, some even from childhood. People started getting tumors and lung cancer, and in time it was discovered that it was because of all the chemicals people were inhaling from the cigarettes.

Although less people smoke today than back then, there are still smokers who are very addicted to cigarettes and find it hard to quit. As a result, many people end up dying prematurely from such maladies as lung cancer derived from this smoking.

This is where the EBT scan comes in. Because the scan produces very clear pictures of the organs as well as the circulatory system in the body, it thus becomes easier for a doctor to diagnose the presence of various tumors, as well as determine how advanced various tumors are.

People who have never had this scan done before are probably curious to know how they should best prepare. Because the scanning machine itself is very sensitive, it is important for patients to make sure that they arrive to the facility wearing comfortable clothing that has absolutely no metal in it.This actually seems easier than it really is for some people, because this means that certain kinds of buttons, belts, and zippers cannot be at all present.

Additionally, the patient will need to avoid wearing any accessories that have metal in them, such as hearing aids or glasses. If the patient dos not have any clothing that is without metal, then he or she will be given a medical robe to wear. The scan itself is very straightforward, with the patient being made to lie down on an examination table while the scan is working. After the scan has been completed, the person is usually able to return to regular activities.
