There are many ways in which you can make sure your credit details remain safe from fraudsters. Experts tell us that credit card fraud is escalating, so implementing safety measures will ensure that you don’t become a victim. At ATMs do not transact if anything seems out of place either with the people around you, or the machine itself. Watch especially for anything different about the card slot.

When transacting online only deal with reputable companies - look for the padlock symbol on the web page or make sure the URL starts with https rather than just htpp. Don’t send bank account or PINs via email. If this is necessary, divide the number up between two emails. Don’t allow your card to be swiped twice for one transaction without getting a receipt that cancels the first one.

Keep your card in sight at all times, especially if transacting with it overseas. Make sure you have a locked letterbox. If you don’t, consider picking up any new cards or pins from the bank in person. Always check your monthly statements and report any unauthorised transactions straight away. If you lose your card or it is stolen, contact the bank immediately.
