Making Your Home Anonymous
If youve ever talked to a realtor about selling your home, they will often refer to your home as a house. One of top reasons for hiring a realtor is the fact that they arent emotionally attached to the home. Theres lots of competition out there with other well priced homes on the market. Your goal is to have the best home with the best price. Thinking of your home as a marketable commodity is the mind set sellers should be in.
Your home should take on the role of newly constructed homes in your area. Go take a drive and visit show homes or open houses built by the developer. Youll find they are furnished with minimal couches, a bed and nice curtains. This is done so that everyone who visits can envision themselves in that property. By de-personalizing your home you increase the chance of making a connection with potential buyers.
Take down family photos, souvenirs from a vacation, ordainments and clutter. If there is a large family photo on the wall, take it down. If you are going to move you should be packing for your move anyways. This involves the eventual packing of the photos anyways so why not start early?
Because the kitchen is usually the focal point of most homes, you must de-clutter. Absolutely nothing can be on the counters. Out of sight, out of mind is what your mentality should be when selling the kitchen area. Also, if you have bright and bold colors, you should consider painting. Using earth tones relaxes the buyers. Bright and intrusive colors make people feel out of place and rushed. If you do not like neutral earth toned colors you can always consider using an off white. But remember, you are selling your home so you dont have to live with these colours for very long. White expands the perception of additional square footage and increase the likely hood of interest in the property.
