Weddings are no doubt a very important and memorable time for a bride and groom. Song selections for each wedding set the tone for the event, and make the celebration special for not only the bridal party, but guests as well. Whether live music or pre-recorded selections are chosen, music is an important aspect of each individual wedding.

Every wedding has its own personality; just like every couple have their own personalities. Music selections for your wedding should include songs that are similar to your individual personality.

Perhaps songs that mean something, or have significance to your relationship should be chosen. There are several different aspects of the ceremony, such as exiting the service as a married couple, where music selections should reflect the importance of your new commitment. Songs should be passionate, meaningful, and send a message of love and respect for one another.

The number of songs you choose to play during your wedding service depends on the type of service itself. A number of couples choose to have a live artist perform love songs during the ceremony.

Many wedding officiates and or churches can provide details on when music will be needed; such as processional, recessional, etc. Some venues may have restrictions, so it is a good idea to speak with those at the venue, or those performing the ceremony, prior to choosing your music

Many brides opt to have recorded music at the reception, and hire a professional DJ, especially with longer receptions or when a lot of music is needed. Live bands are also popular, and can make the event feel more intimate.

Like the wedding ceremony itself, particular songs should be chosen for aspects of the reception like the cake cutting, or bouquet toss. If your wedding has a theme, such as a beach wedding, music should go along with the specific theme.

Songs for your first dance should be chosen carefully. The song should be meaningful, and not necessarily modern. It should have a medium consistent beat, not fast or slow.

The lyrics should display a message that is fitting to your wedding, and one that both you and your future spouse find significant to your love. It is important that you rehearse dancing to the song you choose prior to your reception in order to appear graceful.

For any aspect of the wedding it is a good idea to put all music selections on paper, and form an itinerary. This will help to eliminate any confusion.

Be sure that your musician or DJ knows the procedures and when to play each individual song. If any of your wedding party have tasks during, after, or before a particular song, it is wise to go over the itinerary with them also. Having everyone informed ahead of time will help your event run more smoothly.

If you are having trouble developing a song list, the Internet can be a powerful tool. Song lists are available online, in books, or through a wedding coordinator. Remember that this is your wedding, and choose songs that are meaningful to you.

Your wedding day will be one that you will never forget, so music selections should be of your own taste.
