5 Tips to Finding a Chiropractor

A good chiropractor is a blessing. Unfortunately for me I did not know this until I was well into my twenties. I know that is still young, but when I think of all the wasted years I spent suffering from migraines I shudder.(Yes, I suffered from migraines from the tender age of 8.) Anyway, there are a few tips I have accumulated in finding a good chiropractor. I hope they help you too.

1. Ask people. The good old fashioned word of mouth has always helped me. People who know a good chiropractor are willing to share the news and they are more than willing to share the ones who stink and keep you waiting. Friends, co-workers, neighbors, and even people on the bus can shed valuable insight on good chiropractors or at least point you in the right direction.

2. I like going to the Internet. After getting a few names, I check them out on the Internet. You can normally find out what kind of reputation a chiropractor has by looking them up. Patient testimonials can often be found online along with blogs and clinic information.

3. Check outside your insurance coverage. While it is always nice to go to a chiropractor inside your insurance coverage, you might find a better doctor out of network. Let me put it this way. We all know that doctors that accept \"state\" insurance are qualified doctors but are often overworked and are hard to schedule. You get better care if you can see a \"private\" doctor. Sometimes it works the same way with chiropractors. I would never say that chiropractors that accept insurance are not as good as those that don\'t because they are. They go through the same training and work just as hard. Sometimes it is just easier to see a chiropractor that doesn\'t accept your insurance.

4. Ask the chiropractor how often they get adjusted. This is often a very telling question as it will tell how often they expect you to get adjusted. If they say every week or every month, then they will expect you to get adjusted every week or every month. However, if they say as needed, then they will expect you to come in when you feel you need adjusted and not as part of some predetermined schedule.

5. Go with your instinct. After visiting a few chiropractors, you will get a feeling for which one you like. Go with that feeling. You can\'t really put a price on your gut instinct. After all you will want to feel comfortable with your chiropractor. It is a relationship you will need to develop but an initial trust is something you can\'t put a price tag on. So if you find a chiropractor you like stick with them.
