Over the years iPods have become one of the most popular ways to listen to music. This is because they are small and compact, making them easy to carry around. They also keep music in a data format that doesn?t erode overtime, like CDs and cassette tapes. If you have just bought your iPod you are probably trying figure out how to get music on it. Downloading music allows you to add songs that you have purchased online or imported from a CD.

If you have the internet on your iPod you will be able to download songs right from iTunes. ITunes is the site by Apple where you can purchase music to add to your iPod. Even if you are on the road, you should be able to download your music from anywhere that has an internet connection. Of course, this is only possible on iPods that have their own internet. Most require the assistance of your personal computer. The drawback to downloading songs right onto your iPod is that they are not protected. If your iPod acts up you will have to repurchase all of the songs. To prevent this, make sure you synch your iPod with the music library on your computer.

If you?ve never transferred music to your iPod then the simplest way is through iTunes. The iTunes software organizes and keeps track of all the music that you have added to it. You can then choose to either move a song to the iPod or you can create what?s known as a sync list which will move all the media on that list to the iPod. You can also use iTunes to download music to your computer. You can get iTunes directly from the Apple website if you didn?t get a CD with your iPod. Your downloaded music will automatically appear in the library window after you?ve downloaded them.

Since so many people have CDs there had to be some way to transfer the music onto your iPod without having to repurchase it. Using this method you can put your entire CD collection onto a tiny device that can be taken anywhere. Just put the CD into your computer and select the Devices tab in iTunes. You should be able to view the CD and select ?Import CD?. When the songs are finished uploading you will be able to find them in your music library. Don?t forget to edit the names and titles from CDs so they appear correctly on your iPod.

Finally all you have left to do is to put the music on your iPod. Attach the cord to your iPod and computer. You can choose to make a sync list to add a number of songs to your iPod or you can drag individual songs to the iPod. If you want to put your whole library on your iPod just add everything to the sync list and hit sync.
