What Would A Cigarette Smoker Do To Be Able To Quit

If you have never been addicted to smoking tobacco, then you can not possibly have any idea what is it liked to be chained to them everyday. Most non-smokers think that it is ridiculous when a smoker says they can not quit. They believe that if you wanted it bad enough you would just put them down and stop. This is why non-smokers do not understand. It is just not that easy. As a matter of a fact, it can be for most smokers the single most difficult thing they can try to give up in their life.

There are even cases where a smoker that has also been addicted to other things as well as tobacco like drugs or alcohol, have managed to give up and recover from using those things, but not cigarettes. That is how strong the addiction to smoking can be. It is a craving that you wake up with in the morning and you have it every hour or so, at least most smokers do, all throughout the day and even if you wake up in the middle of the night. You can actually get panicked if you run out and know that you can not get one just like a drug user who needs a fix. You might not have the sweats and tremors as bad as a person addicted to heroine or alcohol, but the nervous anxiety can drive you crazy.

If a non-smoker does not believe that most smokers would do almost anything to be able to quit and stay quit, that is just one more reason why they can not really know anything about how it feels to be addicted to smoking cigarettes. Smokers that really want to stop go to all kinds of lengths to break the habit. They chew gum, eat candy, over eat, use nicotine patches and gum, try nicotine inhalers. They might get hypnotized, see a psychiatrist or therapist. They have checked themselves into clinics and the sad truth is that for many people that have tried these things, they will not work for them.

This is not to say that a person should ever give up trying to stop smoking tobacco if they want to that badly because eventually there will be a breaking point. Something will eventually work for them if they just do not give up. Willpower and determination is half the battle and if a smoker can continue to strive for that final goal of being smoke free, they can succeed. Others have done it and there is hope for anyone that keeps trying.
