Do you want to stop smoking tobacco so badly that you have considered going to see a therapist of some kind for help? Ask yourself this question, who knows you better than you? There are plenty of licensed and professional therapists of all kinds out there and most of them can actually help people with a variety of issues that they can not deal with on their own. When it comes to smoking, this is a problem that is caused by a habit that you have. It is also called an addiction. The addiction is to the nicotine that the tobacco contains as well as the act of smoking itself. You can pay out a lot of money to see and therapist and have them tell you the things that you already know.
A therapist will tell you that smoking tobacco is a destructive and deadly habit. You already know this. They will tell you that there are probably underlying reasons why you smoke, but it will take many sessions more than likely for them to be able to figure out what those underlying reasons are. Well, you know what one underlying reason why you smoke is already, you enjoy smoking for some dumb reason and like most other smokers, you do not know why.
Smoking itself is more of a habit than what you get out of it. Once you become accustomed to doing it everyday, it is similar to throwing your dirty socks on the floor. You do it because you can, but that does not mean that you enjoy having to pick them up later. You smoke because you can and you are used to it, but that does not mean that you like what it is doing to you. If you want to stop having to pick up your dirty socks off the floor, you simply have to stop doing it. If you want to stop smoking tobacco, you simply have to stop doing it.
Now, most smokers would say that is a silly comparison because there is nothing simple about quitting smoking. Actually it is that simple, it is just not that easy. There is a difference. If you want to lose weight, it is usually as simple at not overeating, but stopping yourself from overeating is not easy. That is the same thing. What you do or not do is totally in your hands and you can see a therapist for encouragement if you like, but in the end, whether or not you pick up that cigarette and smoke it will still be up to you. You will either do it or you will not. It is that simple.
