Going cold turkey has the most intense withdrawal side effects because you are now depleting your body and mind of what it thinks it needs to survive: nicotine. They include insomnia, fatigue, intense headache, tightness in the chest and irritability, as well as cravings. This makes going cold turkey a risky option for quitting.
Prescription medication, such as Chantix, has a failure rate of over 96%, that same as going cold turkey. The downsides of prescription medication to quit smoking is that it is a mind-altering drug. The FDA announced that this drug has created suicides and depression amongst a majority of its users.
Nicotine replacement products such as patches and gum can work for some, but have a very high failure rate as well. Although they do provide the nicotine that your body craves, they do not provide the physical sensation of holding a cigarette and the behavior associated with it.

Use the e-cigarette for 50% of your smoking and 50% regular cigarettes, increasing your usage of e-cigarettes every week until you have completely quit smoking regular cigarettes OR 2. Only use the E-cigarette. You will not have any withdrawal side effects.
