The Gold Miraculous Medal is a priceless medallion of the Catholic History. It is widely worn by Catholics around the world. You should own this keepsake, yourself, for several reasons.
Its history dates back to 1830 when St. Catherine Laboure of Paris received a number of visits from the Virgin Mary herself who entrusted this medallion's making to her. She (The Virgin Mary) bestowed upon St. Catherine Laboure the instructions of how the medal was to be made.
On the face of the Gold Miraculous Medal, Mary was to be engraved as portrayed in Gen 3:15. A snake's head is being crushed under her feet as She stands on a globe in representation of the Queen of Heaven and Earth. The date of 1830 represents the year in which the instructions were given to St. Catherine Laboure for the designing of this medal. Also included on the face is a short prayer, O, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
On the back of the Gold Miraculous Medal there are twelve stars surrounding two hearts, a Cross upon a bar, and the letter M. The twelve stars are in reference to the Apostles. One star for each of the twelve. The two hearts are the hearts of Jesus and Mary signifying their love for us. The Cross is symbolic to Christ, Himself. It rests upon a bar the symbol for the Earth. The letter is interweaved with the Cross and bar, showing a union between Christ and Earth with Mary.
After the vision and instructions for the designing of the Gold Miraculous Medal were given to St. Catherine, Mary then told her, Those who wear it will receive great graces. Especially if they wear it around the neck.
It took two years for these medals to begin being engraved. It took four more years for St. Catherine's visions to be declared genuine. Hence, throughout the years, the Gold Miraculous Medal's popularity has steadily increased until today. Originally 2,000 were made. Now, people all around the world are meaning this medal as a testimony to faithful prayer and a symbolic representation to the power of faith.
If you, personally, do not own one, you are missing out on a great historical part of Catholic History. Its history has survived 179 years and continues to grow abroad. You could be a part of this by getting one soon. Also, do not forget the promise of great graces to all who wear it, especially if it is worn around the neck.
If you do own one...bless you. But, what about other members of your family and friends? Are they devote in prayer and deserving of the graces bestowed upon those who wear the Gold Miraculous Medal? Or maybe you would like to share the history and story of this medal and continue the carrying of its symbolism to our next generation.
For whatever reason you choose, The Gold Miraculous Medal is a beautiful piece of history to own and keep close to your heart...and neck.
