Water filtration is an indispensable part of our world. We may like to assume that our water is safe to consume and drink, at least in the civilized world, but it's typically not the case at all. The vast majority of water naturally contains potentially harmful, even deadly substances and microbes, in addition to whatever powerful synthetic chemicals may have gotten into a water source from the side-effects of modern living and industry. Government water purification efforts often fall far short of the mark and may be harmful in their own right.

A whole house water filter systems is a POE or point of entry system where one or more water filters are attached right at the place from which the water enters your home. There is often a water softener here, too, to remove heavy metals right at the source.

Some people who have these POE filters also supplement them with POU, or point-of-use, filters that complement the main filter. For instance, reverse osmosis in-line filters are often installed to filter water from the water tanks as water is being drawn up to a place of use. The filters are so powerful that there is an extra level of security even without the supplements such as the POU filters. In fact, the whole house filters are so good that they often cut down on dwellers' allergy symptoms as less fungi, spores, mold, or other allergens even make it into the home at all (which means that whole house water filters also contribute to better air quality within the home). Whole house water filters are also the most efficient of the filtration systems, filtering at low temperatures.

And--if the local area water cleansing system ever becomes damaged, the whole house system will protect against the effects of that damage.
