When your home has been flooded because of a natural disaster and you found that it was actually still worth saving, instead of looking at the negative side, why not try looking to the positive instead? This decorating opportunity might not have been something you were planning to have to do, but since you do have to make, it is also a perfect time to make some changes that you might have wanted to do anyway.

The entire clean up process after a natural disaster flood can take some time to tear out affected things like walls and floor. Even studs and ceiling beams might need replacing if they were going to be unstable or had mold in them. This is a good example of turning a negative into a positive. You might be able to rearrange some of the walls to suit your taste a little better if you like. If you had ceiling damage and they had to be torn out, this is a great time to bring height into your room by raising it up.

If you had floors that had to be torn out that were covered with carpeting, this might be the perfect time to install those beautiful hardwood floors you have been dreaming of. Maybe installing natural stone tile on the floors or countertops in the kitchen could be a replacement for the old vinyl stuff you had in there before. If the cabinets had mold damage and were made of particle board, this will be your opportunity to replace them with a different style or material.

In a bathroom it might be possible to salvage the toilet, sinks, or tub just by cleaning and sanitizing them. When it is necessary to tear out the flooring or walls in the bathroom you might wish to relocate some of the plumbing at this time to give you more space or just a better bathroom layout. It can still make the bathroom seem all brand new even if you reuse your old fixtures.

These are some of the improvements you can make when your home has been flooded that can make the process a little more bearable and even a little exciting. Just because it was a disastrous situation does not necessarily mean that there are not some really good things that can come from it like a redecorating job that will make your home feel brand new again. Natural disaster flooding can leave a devastating emotional disturbance for many people and overcoming that trauma will be easier if you have something to look forward to and that might be making desired improvements to your damaged home while you have the chance.
